Jewelry Designer Susan Gordon draws inspiration for her collection of fine jewelry from the colors, architecture and landscape of India’s fabled Rajasthan.

Combining brilliant precious and semi-precious gemstones, hand set in her characteristic “textured” 22-karat gold, Gordon’s work echoes the past while retaining a decidedly contemporary look.

Jewelry is a second career for this diplomat turned designer.  Gordon previously served with the U.S. Department of State, as chief of staff for the international negotiations on global warming.

A trip to India in March 2000, as a member of President Clinton’s “advance” team, was life changing.  After helping to craft a major environmental speech for the President, Gordon flew from New Delhi to Jaipur, recalling childhood stories of maharajas, painted elephants and gemstones in the desert.

Gordon recalls:  I felt that I had come full circle - my concern for the global environment had brought me to India, and once there, India guided me on a new life path.

Susan Gordon Jewelry is made exclusively by hand, employing skills and approaches that have been handed down over a 5,000 year history of jewelry making in India.  Gordon emphasizes that because only a few pieces can be crafted at a time, no two pieces are exactly alike.  It is a luxury to design a small collection.  Each piece is very personal.

When she is not working on her designs at her workshop in Jaipur, this native Californian spends her time at homes in Kansas City and Los Angeles.
